STEP是由剑桥评估委员会(Cambridge Assessment)提供的考试，测试的是比A-level更高级的数学思维和问题解决水平。

UCL数学offer条件
2022入学，UCL数学相关专业设置了一个稍高的A-level条件(A*A*A)和一个稍低的(A*AA)+任意一门STEP成绩达到2。
对A-level申请成绩的要求是 A*A*A ，数学与进阶数学A*A*;或者A*AA(The requirements for A-level application scores are a * a * a, and mathematics and Advanced Mathematics A * a *; Or a * AA)，数学与进阶数学A*A(任意顺序)，加上任意一门STEP Paper成绩达到2。
对IB的要求是 总分40 ，三门HL 20，包括数学7;或总分39，三门HL19，加上数学7和任意一门STEP Paper成绩达到2。

申请UCL数学相关专业，STEP考试推荐指数
UCL数学要求申请者必须学习完整的A-level进阶数学(Applicants are required to learn complete A-level advanced mathematics)，课程页面给出的申请条件，就是按照有STEP或者没有STEP的区别。
虽然STEP是基于A-level数学和进阶数学的核心大纲，但是STEP测试的是比A-level更高级的数学思维和解决问题的能力(The ability to think and solve problems is more advanced than step-a)，考试在6月份的A-level考试期间举行。UCL数学系表示，强烈建议申请人参加STEP考试作为大学数学专业准备，但是录取条件也包括了不提供STEP的选项。

申请UCL数学相关专业，该选择哪个STEP paper?
在2020年的考试之后，STEP 1被剑桥评估取消，只有另外两项考试可选(After the 2020 exam, step 1 was cancelled by the Cambridge assessment and only two other exams were available.)，UCL offer中提到的“ a 2 in any STEP paper”可以是STEP II ，也可以是STEP III。

STEP 2和STEP 3有什么区别?
STEP 2和3都分为三个部分：纯数、力学、统计。
STEP 2考察范围为AS进阶数学的纯数、力学、概率统计部分(Step 2 covers the pure number, mechanics and probability statistics of as advanced mathematics)，STEP 3考察范围为A-Level进阶数学水平。STEP 3是基于进阶数学全部内容，要求能够更熟练运用知识和涉及的公式。
STEP 2和3难度相当，主要是它们测试的主题不同，但是因为STEP 3包含了更多有挑战的主题(Step 2 and 3 are equally difficult, mainly because they test different topics, but because step 3 contains more challenging topics)，所以被大多数人认为是目前为止最有难度的STEP考试，而且也有可能是有史以来最难的大学入学考试。
